In a dramatic political comeback, Bollywood actor Govinda has re-entered the political arena after a 14-year hiatus. On March 28, 2024, he joined the Shiv Sena, led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. The press conference announcing his decision was attended by party leader Milind Deora.

The Rise of Govinda

His first foray into politics was nothing short of a blockbuster. In 2004, he contested the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate and achieved a remarkable victory. The actor emerged as a giant killer, defeating the BJP stalwart Ram Naik in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency. His charisma and popularity resonated with the voters, propelling him to Parliament.

The Fall and Vanvaas

However, by 2008, His political fervour waned. He candidly admitted that he had been chosen by the Congress primarily to defeat Ram Naik. After serving as an MP from 2004 to 2009, he stepped away from politics, declaring that he was done with the game. His vanvaas (exile) lasted until 2024.

The Return: Back to Ram Rajya

On this momentous day, Govinda declared that he was returning from 14 years of vanvaas into Ram Rajya. His decision to join the Shiv Sena was inspired by the party’s clean aura and its commitment to Maharashtra’s progress. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted the state’s remarkable development under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Govinda’s focus? The beautification of the state and the flourishing of art and culture.

Eknath Shinde: The Architect of Sena’s Success

Eknath Shinde, a grassroots Sena worker, has been instrumental in the party’s stronghold in politically vital Thane and Palghar districts. His leadership has significantly contributed to the Sena’s impressive performance in Lok Sabha, Assembly, and local body polls for over two decades. Shinde’s journey from an auto driver to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra is a testament to his unwavering commitment to public service.

The Future: Lok Sabha Elections 2024

As Govinda prepares to contest from the Mumbai North West constituency against Shiv Sena’s UBT candidate Amol Kirtikar, the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections will determine the fate of his political resurgence. Will he once again emerge as a winner? Only time will tell. But for now, the actor-turned-politician is back, ready to make his mark in the ever-evolving political landscape of Maharashtra.
