Amber Heard appeals defamation case

Amber Heard’s attorneys have formally appealed her loss in a defamation lawsuit filed by Johnny Depp, claiming there were several errors in the trial. The errors made included that the case was heard in Virginia and that the court incorrectly barred Ms. Amber Heard from producing evidence, the appeals court said.

In early November, Depp’s legal team appealed the court’s decision to award her $2 million to Heard, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The case is currently being heard by a three-member appeals court, according to the LA Times. Depp accused Heard of defaming Heard in a 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post.

The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. A Virginia judge reduced his award of punitive damages to $350,000 due to legal limitations.
The jury also awarded Amber Heard $2 million in compensatory damages and money in punitive damages against her counterclaim alleging defamation of statements made by Depp’s attorneys about her abuse allegations.
