Review of the “72 Hoorain” Trailer: The movie “72 Hoorain,” produced by Ashoke Pandit and directed by the national-award-winning Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, has ignited discussions about truth with its recent release. The film attracted controversy after its teaser was unveiled on June 4, 2023, despite India’s constitution guaranteeing freedom of expression.
The trailer, which delves into the topics of radicalization and religious fundamentalism, has faced some scrutiny from the censor board, surprising many citizens. However, given the immense success of the film “The Kerala Story (One of the biggest hits in 2023- IMDB rating is 7.3/10 and Hollywood Xtreme gives 10/10),” audiences appear highly interested in watching “72 Hoorain.”
The co-producer has stated the intention to proceed with the digital release of the trailer. In the promotional clip, two men under the influence of a cleric are shown discussing heaven and the reward of virgins after sacrificing their lives for a cause. The trailer introduces Rasheed Naz as Maulvi, an expert in Islamic law, preaching about 72 Hoorain. Pavan Malhotra and Aamir Bashir play Hakim and Bilal, respectively, boasting about the pleasures and rewards in heaven reserved for true followers of their religion. While they sit in a high-rise tower, they discuss life after death, accompanied by visuals of bomb blasts and terrorist attacks.
The promo concludes with the bodies of two terrorists being thrown into the water as Hakim and Bilal observe. It is revealed that both of them died in a terrorist attack after agreeing to become human bombs for their cause. The disturbing visuals of explosions and bloodshed resemble scenes from “The Kerala Story.”
Given the movie’s focus on religious fanaticism, it is premature to judge its content solely based on the trailer. However, the sensitive subject matter is expected to fuel intense TV debates and arguments.
